Guiding Principles for Preparing for and Undertaking Aseptic Surgery

http://www.lasa.co.uk/PDF/LASA_Guiding_Principles_Aseptic_Surgery_2010.2.pdf

Guiding Principles for Preparing for and Undertaking Aseptic Surgery is a 13 page guide to aseptic surgical techniques which includes sections on the preparations for surgery, surgery itself, recovery and post-operative care and the monitoring of the outcomes of surgery. It does not deal with housing, husbandry, anaesthesia and analgesia in detail. The principles outlined within it apply equally to both recovery surgery and lengthy procedures carried out under terminal anaesthesia.

This guidance was developed by the UK Laboratory Animal Science Association's Education, Training and Ethics Section, with input from colleagues from many Organisations including the UK National Centre for the 3Rs and the RSPCA.

This resource is suitable for both new and existing practitioners. Whilst it was designed to support colleagues working under the UK Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act, it is applicable to others working under other legislation.
