Severity Assessment Framework provides guidance on how to consider and report the severity of a procedure before, during and after the procedure The resource includes information on the general considerations when assessing severity, pre-study conditions, indicators of severity, how to ensure consistency in determining severity and tools for monitoring severity. It was produced by an Expert Working Group established by the European Commission, the EU executive body. Copyright is retained by the European Commission.

This resource will be of use to all individuals involved in severity assessments, be they researchers, animal welfare staff or members of ethical review bodies. For colleagues within EU, it facilitates compliance with the requirements of Directive 201/63/EU.
