Systematic Reviews of Animal Studies is an e-learning resource which provides an introduction to undertaking systematic reviews of studies using research animals.

This web-based resource comprises of an introduction to the subject, essential information and case studies on how to construct review questions, undertake a literature search, select and review retrieved publications, study characteristics, the quality assessment of publications and undertaking meta-analyses. Pre- and post-course questionnaires enable participants to assess their learning.

This resource has been developed by SYRCLE (SYstematic Review Centre for Laboratory animal Experimentation), Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre, The Netherlands. Copyright is retained by the developers, with use licenced under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International licence.

Use of the resource and assessment pre and post use is free of charge. Online registration is required before use. Prospective users should contact the developers (Email: to obtain a registration code.

This resource will be of benefit to both early career and established researchers prior to their design of prospective experimental studies which will involve the use of laboratory animals.
