Euthanasia of Animals

Guidelines for the Euthanasia of Animals provides guidance on the euthanasia of research animals (including fish and aquatic invertebrates). It includes sections on different techniques and the application of each, the use of euthanasia in different species and information on individual species physiological and behavioural responses to euthanasia.

This resource was developed the American Veterinary Medical Association's Animal Welfare Committee. It is licenced for use under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivative 3.-0 Unported License, with copyright being retained by the American Veterinary Medical Association.

The resource is also available as a free download from Smashwords in formats compatible with e-readers.

These guidelines are an essential educational and reference resource for anybody who euthanises or intends to euthanise research animals in order to minimise the pain, suffering and distress of animals that are about to be euthanised.
