Recognition & prevention of pain, suffering and distress in laboratory animals is an online e-learning module which provides users with training in these areas.

The resource covers all the education and training required to meet the learning outcomes of the European Union (Directive 2010/63/EU) Education and Training module 5. It guides users through the process of assessing welfare (health checks, effects of procedures or refinements. Interactive images and video clips highlight key physical and behavioural indicators of good and poor welfare, with information on humane endpoints and carrying out severity assessments also provided. This e-learning module takes users 80 minutes to complete. It is also available at www.flairelearning.com , access via this linked site enables the free tracking of user progress.

This e-learning module was developed by Professor Paul Flecknell and colleagues at Newcastle University (UK) in partnership with the UK National Centre for the 3Rs (NC3Rs). Copyright is retained by the developers.

This resource will be of use to educators and trainers, new researchers and for continued professional development.
